State Budgetary Professional Educational Institution (college) of the city of Moscow “Moscow State Choreographic School named after L.M.Lavrovsky” was founded in 1993 as Autonomous noncommercial organization «Lavrovsky Choreography School» with support of Culture Committee of the Government of Moscow.
J.B. Vasilyeva was its ideological inspirer and director from the very beginning. From the moment of foundation in school were working famous teachers and choreographers: the People’s artist of the Soviet Union M. Lavrovsky, N. Sorokina, G. Krapivina, A. Nikolaev and A. Smirnov.
In 2006 school was named after Leonid Mikhailovich Lavrovsky, great soviet, Russian ballet dancer, ballet master, choreograph, teacher, the People’s artist of the Soviet Union, and this year the Moscow Department of Culture became the founding member of the school (previously – the Culture Committee of the Government of Moscow).
The main purpose of school is educational activity based on educational programs of secondary vocational education in the arts, integrated with educational programs of basic general and secondary general education by qualification : 52.02.01 the Art of ballet.
The children are admitted to school on the basis of the primary general education at the age of 10-11 years and only those who successfully pass entrance tests. After completing to master the educational program of the main general education pupils are awarded the State-Recognized Certificate of Main General Education and after completing the full-time course of studies by the program of intermediate vocational education – the State-Recognized Diploma of intermediate vocational education with qualification assignment: ballet dancer, choreographer. Education period in school is 7 years 10 months.
Teaching staff is represented by highly skilled teachers and concertmasters, most of them have the s highest and first qualification category and honorary titles.
Students of Lavrovsky Moscow State Art School take part in festivals, competitions, conferences. Among them there are holders of gold and silver medals, prize and diploma winners of International and all-Russian contests of choreography in Moscow, Luxembourg, Kharkov, Berlin, Lyon, Tallinn; scholars of Moscow Government and Svetlana Zakharova’s Charity foundation of assistance in development of ballet art, recipients of Moscow mayor Grants in the sphere of culture and art.
Every year, our kids receive training in educational centre «Sirius» in town of Sochi under the specialized educational program: Choreography: classic dance (ballet).
School’s concert program previously involved Divertissement which included items of different dance styles: from a classic and folk dance to modern choreography, and also ballets: «Cinderella», «The Four Seasons», «Frederic Shopen’s Fantaisie-Impromptu», «Dr. Doolitle», «Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs».
Nowadays school repertoire have various choreographic items of different dance styles from ballets: «The Nutcracker», «Swan Lake», «Giselle», «Coppelia», «The Little Humpbacked Horse», «Esmeralda», «La Bayadere», «Flames of Paris», «Flower Festival in Genzano», «Raymonda».
Longlasting partnership consociate the school with more than 20 organizations and institutions of Moscow, including: Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre, Sats Moscow State Opera and Ballet Theatre for Young Audience, Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS, Medvedeva’s Fund of Social-Cultural Initiatives, «G.P. Vishnevskaya Moscow State College of Musical-Dramatic Art» and others.
Lavrovsky Moscow State Choreography School graduates continue their education in Moscow State Institutes of Higher Professional Education and obtain employments in Moscow’s best theaters: The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre, Natalya Sats Moscow State Academic Children’s Music Theater, The Moscow Classical Ballet, «Kremlin Ballet»Theatre, «Russian Ballet» Moscow State Theatre and others.
Over the years of its existence more than 250 ballet artists graduated from Lavrovsky Moscow State Choreography School.
Since October 2018 the director of the school is Aidar Akhemetov , the People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, International Competitions laureate, famous dancer, teacher and choreographer.
